Protect 8 PLUS offers a standard three-phase input and is available with both single-phase and three-phase output from 10 to 40 kVA, with a battery voltage of 216 VDC or 384 VDC. Later this year, versions from 60 to 120 kVA will also be offered in both configurations to complement the Protect 8 PLUS range.
Thanks to its IGBT rectifier, the system offers a high input power factor, reaching 0.99, and minimal total harmonic distortion (THDi) rejection, making it ideal for situations where the UPS is powered by a generator or to prevent harmonic disturbances to loads connected to the upstream busbar. This results in substantial savings in upstream network sizing. The bidirectional rectifier also allows for various battery capacity tests to be performed by feeding the grid back into the UPS without using the bypass line or requiring additional load banks.
With Protect 8 PLUS, AEG Power Solutions introduces a new pre-charge system to the market that provides a very low inrush current, less than 2 times the nominal current, to optimize upstream protection.
The Protect 8 PLUS incorporates an integrated static bypass switch, offering up to 1000% short-circuit capacity for 50 ms. On the inverter side, it provides excellent output short-circuit capacity when the bypass line is unavailable. This allows for selective disconnection of the faulty load while keeping the other lines operational, ensuring greater load availability and safety. Overall, the system achieves up to 90% efficiency in double-conversion operation with galvanic isolation of the input and output.
AEG Power Solutions has also improved ease of maintenance, making repairs faster and simpler. All major components, such as power supplies, control electronics, and capacitors, are accessible from the front, and fans can be replaced without shutting down the unit.
Protect 8 PLUS includes standard galvanic outlet isolation and n+1 fan redundancy, and exceeds the latest JIP33 requirements of the International Oil and Gas Producers Association (IOGP). This, together with the optional IP43-rated enclosure, makes it the ideal solution for demanding environments in heavy industry.
