The new IECEx and ATEX certified BEx horns and strobe lights are the perfect solution for SIL 2 system designers and integrators. Designed and tested to ensure a 99.9% reliability rate, they take plant safety to new levels. To meet SIL 2 requirements, the new units feature a combination of software and hardware that accurately monitors and interprets the sound generated by the horn or the light generated by the Xenon strobe light to verify proper operation. Fault monitoring feeds information back to the control panel using either individual fault contacts or by introducing a series resistor into the monitoring circuit. Using the series resistor eliminates the need for any additional wiring, allowing operation in a standard two-wire configuration.

In high-risk industries such as oil, gas, and petrochemicals, the adoption of SIL 2 (Safety Integrity Level) systems is becoming the norm, particularly for safety-critical fire and gas detection systems. While the fire and gas control panel will typically initiate automatic process shutdown procedures in the event of an alarm, visual and audible warning devices are critical components as they must ensure that personnel are alerted in the event of an emergency.
