These platforms allow for improved medical and care monitoring of each target patient group. The prototypes will be showcased for the first time and available for testing at the ICT2013 trade fair, taking place from November 6-8 in Vilnius, Lithuania. Organized by the European Commission, the fair will bring together more than 4,000 researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry representatives to learn about and discuss new European policies in ICT research and the latest cutting-edge research.
BDigital will be present at the fair with several of its European projects as examples of applied research highly focused on creating software products that provide effective solutions and meet market needs while aligning with the European Commission's objectives. Specifically, these types of ICT platforms represent substantial improvements in hospital and healthcare settings for chronic conditions, helping to optimize costs while offering patients high-quality service and monitoring, and improving their quality of life.
The project:
The platform developed within the BackHome framework (led by BDigital) is designed to help provide greater physical and social autonomy to people with severe disabilities. They will be able to control their home environment with smart home sensors (for example, turning a light on and off) and will also be able to interact and communicate with family and friends using standard social networks and email. Similarly, the project will develop a home remote monitoring system to track patients' scheduled recovery activities, such as cognitive stimulation and rehabilitation tasks through creative activities (art, music) or exercises to improve memory and concentration, using Brain-Computer Interfaces (BNCI).
Also focused on rehabilitation is the REWIRE project, which has developed an innovative virtual reality-based rehabilitation platform that will allow patients discharged from the hospital, for example, after suffering a stroke, to continue motor rehabilitation at home under the remote supervision of the hospital.
'
For its part, the Synergy-COPD project (also led by BDigital, with the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona as a key partner) has created an ICT tool that will contribute to studying the behavior of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and will help doctors and pharmacists make decisions about patients with this disease. Specifically, the tool, designed for doctors and pharmacists, allows them to predict the progression of the disease by entering patient data and cross-referencing it with medical information such as previous cases, and even help decide on the treatment that will yield the best results.
In addition, other advanced European projects in which Barcelona Digital participates, such as SUPERHUB, ACDC, and Open-Dai, will also be showcased at ICT2013.
More
than 4,000 researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry representatives will gather in Vilnius for the ICT2013 congress and trade fair, under the motto "Create, Connect, Grow." The event will focus on Horizon 2020, the EU's new framework program for research and innovation, planned for the years 2014-2020. ICT2013 will bring together Europe's leading technology groups and centers with companies and digital experts to jointly chart the course of European ICT research policy.
