hvc-module-1-wIn each case, the module delivers a value along with a degree of certainty, allowing the programmer to configure the appropriate response for each application. The HVC is designed in a very compact configuration and can be easily integrated into an existing system or implemented in a new design.
The module is based on Omron's OKAO Vision software, a suite of image recognition algorithms proven and used in over 500 million digital cameras, mobile phones, and surveillance robots worldwide. The HVC incorporates OKAO integrated into a hardware platform specifically optimized from a digital and optical design perspective for this application. The HVC includes a camera and processor, and a UART interface for controlling the module and the data read.
Key features of the module include its speed and consistency of response, as well as the distance at which it can take readings. For example, the HVC can capture, detect, and recognize a face at a distance of 1.3 m in 1.1 s and will also provide a confidence level for the reading. Blink and gaze estimation takes less than 1 second. The module can assess a subject's mood based on one of five expressions. It can also detect a human body at a distance of up to 2.8 meters and a hand at a distance of 1.5 meters. The module's detection angle is specified as 49° horizontally and 37° vertically.
The image analysis functions provided by HVC can facilitate human-machine interaction and optimize equipment response under various conditions in both indoor and outdoor applications. Omron also offers the OKAO vision software separately to developers who prefer to implement their own hardware solution.
