In biomedicine, segmentation involves annotating the pixels of a significant structure in a medical image, such as an organ or cell. Artificial intelligence models can assist physicians by highlighting pixels that may indicate a particular disease or abnormality.
However, these models typically provide only one answer, whereas the problem of segmenting medical images is far from black and white. Five expert human annotators could provide five different segmentations, perhaps disagreeing on the existence or extent of the borders of a nodule in a lung CT image.

Ltd., based in Seoul, Korea, a pioneering company in the supply of high-speed, asymmetric connectivity technologies and products for cameras, sensors, and displays, based on the open standard Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA) for on-vehicle networks (IVN).

A team led by Professor of Business Informatics Wolfgang Maaß of Saarland University and the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) is working with commercial and academic partners on the "Quasim" project to develop new simulations based on quantum technology that could not be performed with current conventional computer architectures due to computational time and storage limitations.
