For the ATEX versions of the LBFS, Baumer uses a highly specialized protective design. This allows the Ex tA dust version (zones 20, 21, and 22) and the Ex nA gas version (zone 2) to be used without a Zener barrier, as the housing already provides all the necessary protection. This is very cost-effective, since normally all sensors for potentially explosive atmospheres require a Zener barrier.

The ATEX certifications cover zones 0, 1, and 2 (gas), as well as zones 20, 21, and 22 (dust). Furthermore, the Ex iA version for gas (zones 0 and 1) also allows for quick installation and easy operation. For this version, Baumer supplies the PROFSI3 LS isolation module ready for use. This module has been specially designed for use with Baumer LBFS and LFFS level switches. With this custom-made isolation module, the user can put the sensor into operation without wasting time and effort selecting a Zener barrier.

The PROFSI3 LS can operate on voltages from 22 VDC to 120 VDC and from 90 VAC to 253 VAC. The LBFS is based on frequency deviation technology, making it particularly well-suited for accurately measuring both solids and powders. Since the processing of these materials often generates potentially explosive dust clouds, the new ATEX versions enable a wide range of useful new applications, especially for regular LBFS users in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
