RS Components is acutely aware of the need for effective electrostatic discharge (ESD) controls within its packaging facilities. ESD can have a significant impact on the reliability of sensitive electronic components, some of which could suffer permanent damage when subjected to relatively low voltage discharges.
To demonstrate its ongoing commitment to ESD control, RS maintains certification to the ANSI/ESD S20.20 standard, a standard developed by the ESD Association to meet the global need for technically sound ESD control programs in the electronics industry.
As a result of the revision of the ESD S20.20:2014 standard, testing became a mandatory requirement. RS Components decided to upgrade its ESD audit equipment and was looking for a compact, portable product to conduct ESD assessments more efficiently. In addition to the testing equipment, they were also looking to replace an older CPM374 load monitor.
After extensive research, RS Components consulted with Acal BFi who recommended the TREK, Inc. Model 158A.
Although primarily a load plate monitor, this multi-functional device is equally effective at measuring stresses generated by flooring materials and footwear in combination with human activity. It features a user-friendly 7-inch display that can be activated via either the touchscreen controls or the corresponding function keys. The compact design facilitates data collection and incorporates data storage capabilities for post-monitoring analysis and evaluation. Real-time data is displayed both graphically and numerically and can also be transferred to a USB flash drive or other USB device.
In addition to monitoring EDS, TREK products can be used in a wide variety of applications, including electrophotography, piezoelectronics, semiconductor equipment, power amplification, mass spectrometry, and metrology.
