Digital input/output modules are widely used in automated test systems to operate external devices or interface with external logic. Digital inputs check whether a signal's voltage is above or below a threshold, and digital outputs provide a current source, a sink, or, in some cases, a combination of both. Industrial digital I/O modules are suitable for acquiring signals from digital sensors, communicating with industrial devices such as PLCs, and operating relays, solenoids, and lamps.

"At Pickering Interfaces, we are committed to offering the broadest and most capable portfolio of industrial digital I/O products in the industry," said Paul Bovingdon, Pickering's Technical Engineering Director. "These new modules reflect our commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our customers.".

High-Density Digital Output Modules (Model 40/42-412A)
These high-density channel output modules expand the existing 40-412 PXI range of digital input/output modules by adding a PXIe option (Model 42-412A). The family offers up to 64 output channels (with variants of 16, 32, 48, or 64 output channels), with a maximum external output voltage range of 50 V and a current handling capacity of 0.5 A on either the low or high side.

High-Density Digital Input Module with Two Programmable Thresholds (Model 40/42-414)
A new family, the Models 40-414 (PXI) and 42-414 (PXIe) are digital input modules with a high number of channels, high input voltage capability, and dual programmable threshold settings per bank. Independent banks of eight channels enable the detection of multiple voltage levels across the module. Simultaneously, the dual thresholds allow for convenient determination of the state of digital signals by comparing each input voltage to two programmable threshold levels, enabling rapid determination of whether the input is low, high, or in an intermediate logic state. This feature is particularly useful for functional testing applications, as it can often replace the need for a DMM to determine if a device is functioning correctly. There are variants with 32, 64, 96, or 128 input channels, and each can be specified with maximum threshold voltages of 50 V, 100 V, 200 V, or 300 V. The module offers an efficient solution for determining the status of industrial digital signals such as those used in automotive, aerospace, and rail applications, eliminating the need for external signal conditioning circuits and reducing the complexity and space occupied by the test system.

Semi-dynamic digital I/O module (model 40/42-419)
Another new family, the 40-419 (PXI) and 42-419 (PXIe) models are digital I/O modules that provide 16 to 64 I/O channels with a range of up to 60 V via external power or four onboard voltage channel selections (+3.3 V, +5 V, +12 V, or +24 V), and current output capability up to 300 mA. They also provide I/O address selection for each port/channel. Each 8-channel port can be configured as inputs or outputs together. Alternatively, individual channels can also be configured as inputs or outputs within a single port. The module also allows for the acquisition and generation of 8-bit semi-dynamic patterns using the onboard memory.

Relay Exciter Module (Model 40/42-411A)
This form-and-fit upgrade of the existing Model 40-411 provides PXIe options. It offers four channel count variants from 16 to 64 low-side outputs, with the ability to drive external 60V, 1A relays, and three integrated relay voltage supply options (plus a mixed-voltage option) for low-power applications. Models 40-411A (PXI) and 42-411A (PXIe) are ideal for controlling external relays from a Pickering Interfaces PXI or PXIe system or LXI modular chassis.
Models 40/42-411A, 412A, and 419 have built-in protection systems, including overcurrent detection and overvoltage or thermal overload clamps. In this way, the modules can drive relay coils without using flyback diodes or preventing relay coil current from flowing back to the chassis backplane using an isolation barrier. Together, the modules offer flexibility to provide external or internal power, as well as high- or low-side drive capability to suit varying load capacity requirements.
The front panel of the modules uses a 78-pin D-type connector for models 40/42-411A and 412A or a 160-pin DIN 41612 connector for models 40/42-414 and 419, both of which are fully compatible with a range of connector accessories.
All standard products manufactured by Pickering Interfaces include a three-year warranty and guaranteed long-term product support.
