In addition to the traditional 3D modeling interface, the new 3D Electrical Design interface for ANSYS HFSS v14.5 (Service Pack 2) offers a significant improvement in usability for designers of high-performance electronic devices. This update allows engineers to easily and quickly create sophisticated electromagnetic simulations using an intuitive design interface and obtain reliable, accurate, and high-fidelity results directly from the HFSS solver. The 3D Electrical Design interface also enables more efficient integration with established EDA design workflows, as well as direct import of geometric designs from compatible ODB++ databases such as Altium®, Cadence®, Mentor Graphics®, and Zuken™.
The new Method of Moments (MoM) planar solver allows users to quickly perform complex calculations and explore design alternatives early in the design cycle, while still being able to leverage the robust analytical capabilities of HFSS to optimize and verify the design in later stages of the process. Automatic configuration functions for port assignment, radiation boundary conditions, and material layer properties further simplify the modeling process and allow users to easily create designs of their electronic products with fully parameterized planar stackups, through padstacks and transmission lines, as well as other types of planar structures and transitions.
