Service Pack 1 for TIA Portal V14 Engineering Environment
Siemens is expanding its engineering environment to include a range of new practical functions to shorten engineering times with Service Pack 1 for TIA Portal V14 (fully integrated automation portal).
The main focus of the innovations in TIA Portal V14 SP1 is to bring greater openness to other systems. This includes the standardized bidirectional exchange of engineering data via AutomationML (Automation Markup Language) using engineering software such as EPLAN, the TIA Selection tool, or other computer-aided engineering (CAE) systems. The new features of the TIA Portal Openness programming interface now also allow for the automatic manipulation of hardware configurations, including fail-safe objects.
The TIA Portal engineering environment is a central access point for Siemens when it comes to automation in digital enterprises and the design of automation solutions in the context of digitalization. TIA Portal V14 SP1 has also extended TIA Portal Openness, making it easier to digitize work processes from start to finish. For example, the Simatic S7-PLCSIM Advanced virtual controller can be used to test controller functions at any stage and connect them to simulated machine models for virtual commissioning.
Another example is the ability to use Simatic knowledge to program and diagnose robot controllers using Simatic S7-1500 function blocks.
Starting with versions V14 SP1, V13 SP2, and later, the TIA Portal engineering environment is also compatible with Windows 10, providing flexible coverage for users' operating system requirements. To enable simple and centralized password management for knowledge, write, and copy protection, users can take advantage of the new Password API in TIA Portal V14 SP1. This interface allows for the easy implementation of a password management system for custom applications or secure authentication concepts using removable protection devices (dongles), for example. Simatic ProDiag, the software option for plant and machine diagnostics, has been extended to include analysis criteria for more direct troubleshooting. This allows the PLC to be used with HMI Code Viewer to retrospectively visualize states where faults have occurred and identify their root cause more efficiently. In the Step 7 engineering tool, machine makers can now use the new single block comparison function to streamline editing, allowing, for example, detailed comparison of individual blocks directly from the project navigation area in offline/offline or online/online mode.
General information
Siemens' TIA Portal (Fully Integrated Automation Portal) enables users to perform automation and drive tasks quickly and intuitively through efficient configuration. The software architecture is designed for high efficiency and ease of use, making it suitable for both new and experienced users. It offers a standardized operating concept for controllers, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and drives, as well as for the storage and consistency of shared data—for example, during configuration, communication, and diagnostics—and provides powerful libraries for all automation objects. The TIA Portal's straightforward engineering facilitates comprehensive access to the entire spectrum of digital automation, including digital planning, integrated engineering, and transparent operation. Together with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) and MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) in the Digital Enterprise software suite, the TIA Portal software complements Siemens' comprehensive range of software for companies moving toward Industry 4.0.
