Wheelchairs, wheeled walkers, and easily maneuverable hospital beds; shopping carts and bicycle trailers that glide nimbly around corners; handcarts and trolleys that help pull and push even heavy loads: all this is possible with the new technology developed by Professor Matthias Nienhaus and his team at Saarland University. Their smart wheel and sensor-equipped handle system doesn't require any additional sensors. The researchers only need the data generated by the electric motors that drive the wheels and the data generated when the handle is moved.
