Glucose is the sugar we absorb from the food we eat. It's the fuel that powers all the cells in our body. Could glucose also fuel the medical implants of the future?
Engineers at MIT and the Technical University of Munich believe so. They have designed a new type of glucose fuel cell that converts glucose directly into electricity. The device is smaller than other proposed glucose fuel cells, measuring only 400 nanometers thick—about 1/100th the diameter of a human hair.
