With its smart grid solution, comprised of a communications concentrator and a software platform, the Galician company has secured a privileged position in a market with enormous potential, betting on the technological standard that is achieving the greatest international adoption. European Union countries, like other advanced economies, are in the midst of adapting their electricity grids to equip them with smart technology. Before December 31, 2014, all distribution companies operating in Spain were required to deploy remote management platforms and have replaced at least 35% of their stock of meters up to 15kW (primarily residential installations), installing equipment capable of remote reading and management.
A smart grid laboratory in Galicia:
Telecon's solution is the result of two years of work by the company's R&D department and is already carrying out its first pilot deployments with Galician electricity distribution companies. Last June, the company was presented with considerable success in Malaga at the annual congress of CIDE, the association that brings together small Spanish electricity distributors and has more than 230 member companies.
The company is currently working very closely with the sector, with the aim of establishing a leading laboratory specializing in smart grids in Galicia. “We want to take advantage of this opportunity to make Galicia a benchmark in the smart grid market. To this end, we are working with APYDE and want to involve the technology centers that have participated in the development of our solution, as well as Galician electricity distribution companies,” says Penide.
Advantages for companies and consumers.
In addition to enabling remote and real-time meter reading, smart grids offer companies significant advantages, such as remote analysis of technical parameters throughout the entire network; improved demand forecasting and supply quality; optimized investments; and the detection of potential fraud. They also allow companies to perform operations such as new service connections, disconnections, and instant modifications to contracted power. With smart grids, consumers will be able to monitor their consumption in real time and, once the corresponding regulations are approved, access flexible tariffs based on factors such as time of day, as well as receive remote assistance in case of supply disruptions.
Telecon's comprehensive solution for managing smart grids consists of two main components: a
communications concentrator
Typically located in transformer substations, the concentrators are key to communication between smart meters and the remote management platform. They collect meter readings and enable advanced monitoring and management operations, communicating with management centers via an IP network. The TL-300X family of equipment developed by Telecon is characterized by its robustness and flexibility. It can be installed indoors or outdoors, is compatible with various PRIME technology meter models, and can be adapted for operation in urban, semi-urban, or rural environments.
Telecon's centralized management software platform is an open and scalable application, allowing for customization for each distribution company and making it especially attractive for small and medium-sized distributors. It processes consumption measurements and can be integrated with billing systems. Furthermore, it allows for the generation of various types of reports, generates alerts in case of network incidents, and enables users to take action.
A member of the PRIME Alliance
, Telecon is a member of the PRIME (Powerline Intelligent Metering Evolution) Alliance, an international organization dedicated to developing an open, public, and non-proprietary solution capable of supporting not only remote metering and management solutions, but also a comprehensive smart grid concept. This alliance includes leading companies and organizations from the energy, semiconductor, telecommunications, and consulting sectors, as well as research and development centers. Currently, the PRIME standard is experiencing the greatest international adoption.
