The project involves 21 vocational training centers, business associations, and social partners, including the GAIA Cluster, the UNED (National University of Distance Education), and the National Association of Centers with Professional Certificates (ANCCP), along with other entities from Bulgaria, Germany, Spain, France, Cyprus, Italy, and Norway. Co-financed by the European Union, the project began in 2020 and will conclude at the end of 2024.
The main objective of ECOVEM is to establish a European cooperation platform for professional excellence in microelectronics, enabling the development of innovative vocational training and professional development programs in the field. This will allow for a collaborative approach to the challenges of digitalization, artificial intelligence, green technologies, gender equality, and the integration of migrants through technology. The project also includes specialized microelectronics training for professionals currently working in the electronics and microelectronics sectors.
The 21 entities participating in the ECOVEM project aim to train and retrain teachers to improve their qualifications; implement best practices and approaches of excellence in vocational training from the most advanced countries in other regions; promote investment in vocational training and applied research; and increase the role of vocational training in Smart Specialisation Strategies.
“Microelectronics is one of the fastest-advancing sciences and forms the basis of the electronic economy and society, making continuous training in this field crucial. Collaboration between education and industry, such as that fostered by the ECOVEM project, is fundamental to promoting the development of the skills and competencies required for new jobs in the microelectronics sector,” explains Cristina Murillo, Director of Cluster Services at GAIA.
The project's expected results include the development of 20 courses with 40 modules, covering key topics such as: PCB design and manufacturing, microelectronics packaging technologies, integrated circuit design, systems design, microelectronics for a greener economy, fundamentals of microelectronics manufacturing, and key skills and competencies.
The project also includes online courses aimed at professionals in the ICTA sector in general, and in the field of electronics and microelectronics in particular, on the aforementioned topics.
