In this ebook, 10 experts discuss the fundamentals of motor control. Qorvo engineers and other industry leaders offer their perspectives on how Qorvo helps overcome the design challenges of the rapidly evolving motor control environment. Topics covered include the latest developments in front-of-control (FOC), trapezoidal, sensor-driven, and sensorless motor control solutions, as well as brushless DC (BLDC) and permanent magnet synchronous (PMSM) motors. The ebook also includes practical links to selected motor control products that Qorvo offers to serve various high-growth segments in major global markets, such as automotive, consumer goods, and industrial applications.

Qorvo's ACT72350 motor drivers, available from Mouser, are optimized for driving medium-voltage, three-phase BLDC/PMSM motors. These 160V drivers connect to the three-phase inverter's PWM control input signals via SPI and are fully equipped with Qorvo's patented, highly configurable power manager. The Configurable Power Manager (CPM) provides a comprehensive, energy-efficient power management solution for various power supply types. The 180V Application Specific Drivers (ASPDs) are designed for general-purpose, three-phase H-bridge drives.

The PAC55710 72V BLDC motor driver is a feature-rich, highly optimized system-on-a-chip (SoC) that expands Qorvo’s Power Application Controller® (PAC) product portfolio. The PAC55710 controls and powers next-generation smart energy appliances, devices, and equipment with built-in safety features such as VDS detection, Cycle-by-Cycle (CBC) current limiting, enhanced sample and hold (S&H) for accurate estimation, and a per-window watchdog timer for software safety compliance.

The PAC5527 48V charge pump motor controller is optimized for controlling and driving high-speed motors, including small, battery-powered BLDC motors. The PAC5527 integrates a 32-bit, 150 MHz Arm® Cortex®-M4F microcontroller core with a highly configurable multimode power manager, a unique, patent-pending Qorvo configurable analog frontend™, and application-specific power drivers™.

Finally, Qorvo’s PAC52723EVK1 evaluation kit is a complete hardware solution that enables designers to evaluate and develop power applications for the PAC52723, a powerful and versatile microcontroller based on the Arm® Cortex®-M0. The PAC52723 microcontroller provides up to 32 kB of onboard FLASH memory and 8 kB of SRAM memory, a high-speed 10-bit, 1 µs analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with dual autosampling sequencers, 5/3.3 V I/O, flexible clock sources, timers, a versatile 14-channel PWM motor, and various serial interfaces.
