AI and high-performance computing applications generate a lot of heat, so organizations are increasingly turning to liquid cooling solutions, considered the most efficient and environmentally friendly options.
The Intel Gaudi3 AI accelerator will facilitate the use of servers with both liquid and air cooling, thanks to Vertiv™'s pumped two-phase (P2P) cooling infrastructure. The liquid-cooled solution has been tested with an acceleration power of up to 160kW using on-premises water at temperatures between 17°C and 45°C (62.6°F to 113°F). The air-cooled solution has been tested with a thermal load of up to 40kW and can be deployed in data centers with warm ambient air, up to 35°C (95°F). This medium-pressure, direct P2P cooling solution will allow customers to implement heat reuse, warm water or circulating air cooling, and improvements in power usage effectiveness (PUE), water usage effectiveness (WUE), and total cost of ownership (TCO).
“The Intel Gaudi3 AI accelerator is a perfect solution for a collaboration between Vertiv and Intel,” explained John Niemann, Senior Vice President of Vertiv’s Global Thermal Business. “At Vertiv, we continue to expand our broad portfolio of liquid cooling solutions to better support next-generation AI technology leaders like Intel. Vertiv helps customers accelerate AI adoption quickly and reliably, while also facilitating the achievement of sustainability goals.”.
“The computing power required by AI workloads has heightened the importance of performance, cost, and energy efficiency for businesses today,” added Dr. Devdatta Kulkarni, Chief Engineer and Principal Thermal Engineer for this project at Intel. “To support the increasing power and heat flow of next-generation accelerator designs, Intel has collaborated with Vertiv and other ecosystem partners to enable a highly innovative cooling solution that will be key in helping customers meet their sustainability goals.”.
