Microchip Technology today announced the new PIC32CK family of 32-bit microcontrollers, which integrate a Hardware Security Module (HSM) and an Arm® Cortex®-M33 core with TrustZone® technology to help isolate and protect the device.
The PIC32CK SG is the first 32-bit device on the market to combine the high security of an HSM with TrustZone technology, a hardware-based secure access environment. Microchip's latest innovation for midrange microcontrollers provides designers with a cost-effective embedded security solution for their products that meets the latest cybersecurity standards. The addition of an HSM provides a high level of security for authentication, secure debugging, secure boot, and secure updates, while TrustZone technology adds another layer of protection for core software functions. The HSM can accelerate a wide variety of symmetric and asymmetric cryptographic standards, true random number generation, and security key management.
Microchip's PIC32CK microcontrollers are designed to comply with ISO 26262 functional safety and ISO/SAE 21434 cybersecurity standards. To enhance flexibility and cost-effectiveness, the PIC32CK family of microcontrollers offers a wide range of options that adjust the level of security, memory, and connectivity bandwidth to meet end-user application requirements. These options include 2 MB of dual-pane Flash and 512 KB of SRAM, along with various connectivity options such as 10/100 Ethernet, CAN FD, and USB.
“New requirements mandate that security be included in most IoT-connected devices. The PIC32CK family makes it cost-effective to provide hardware-based security for midrange microcontroller applications,” said Rod Drake, corporate vice president of Microchip’s 32-bit Microcontrollers and Microprocessors business unit. “Microchip’s ecosystem of tools, along with its security expertise, helps our customers manage the complexity of these new requirements and provides support throughout the entire product lifecycle.”.
For supply chains of products requiring a higher degree of security and protection, such as industrial designs, medical devices, household appliances, and consumer IoT devices, the PIC32CK family is supported by Microchip's Trust Platform Design Suite as a service. This platform enables the secure delivery of keys, certificates, and IP addresses directly from the factory without revealing these secrets within the supply chain.
Development Tools:
The PIC32CK family of 32-bit microcontrollers is supported by Microchip software platforms such as MPLAB® Harmony v3 and Trust Platform Design Suite. The PIC32CK family is also compatible with the PIC32CK SG and PIC32CK GC Curiosity Ultra development boards, including the EV33A17A and EV44P93A.
