The PIC18F K80 family has been developed for designers who need to cost-effectively incorporate CAN communication into their applications, along with extremely low power consumption in both sleep and active modes, and robust operation down to 5.5 V. These new microcontrollers also offer a migration path to Microchip's well-known PIC18F4680 CAN family.
For automotive and industrial applications, the PIC18F K80 CAN microcontrollers enable smaller, more cost-effective, and robust control using the integrated CAN peripheral. For applications requiring low power consumption and high precision, these microcontrollers offer best-in-class current ratings to extend battery life, as well as an integrated 12-bit A/D converter and touch sensing peripheral for advanced sensors.
Plug-In Modules (PIMs) for the PIC18 Explorer board are now available for rapid development of PIC18F K80 microcontrollers at a price of $25 per unit; the MA180031 PIM supports the 44-pin PIC18F46K80 microcontroller, while the MA180032 PIM supports the 64-pin PIC18F66K80. For CAN implementation and evaluation, the Microchip CAN/LIN PICtail™ (Plus) daughterboard (AC164130-2), priced at $45, or the PIC18 Explorer or Explorer 16 can be used.
The new PIC18F45K80, PIC18F46K80, PIC18F65K80, and PIC18F66K80 microcontrollers are available in 44- and 64-pin TQFP and QFN packages, while the PIC18F45K80 and PIC18F46K80 are available in 40-pin PDIP packages. The PIC18F25K80 and PIC18F26K80 microcontrollers offer a choice of 28-pin QFN, SOIC, SPDIP, and SSOP packages.
