Available now globally through RS, the em4 range offers three options to help machine builders and systems integrators add value to their applications and connect to the Internet of Things (IoT) quickly and efficiently, while minimizing engineering complexity, cost, and time to market.
The flagship model, the em4 remote, supports secure machine-to-machine protocol communications over a mobile network, providing efficient remote control, management, and maintenance of an application, machine, or fleet of machines. It comes with its own 2G or 3G SIM card and is ideal for applications where data needs to be accessed anytime, anywhere from a smartphone or PC. An Ethernet version of the em4 remote will also be available for applications requiring wired internet access.
Alternatively, the em4 alert is available in 2G or 3G versions, bringing the power of a nano-PLC to projects requiring simple, direct alerts and logging via SMS or email. The em4 alert can be used with the customer's choice of SIM card, supplied by any carrier.
The em4 local series completes the family of nano-PLCs, offering four high-precision sensor inputs from 4 to 20 mA, as well as the option of an integrated Modbus TCP/IP Ethernet port for LAN connectivity.
Combining the ease of use of a logic module with the power of a PLC, the em4 family allows users to quickly integrate advanced applications into water treatment equipment, access control systems, smart buildings, small industrial machines, and many other tasks and services. em4 is a platform for accessing a ready-to-use infrastructure without the need to integrate additional modules, such as wireless modules. Furthermore, it features a comprehensive catalog of tools and online services ready for use in its em4 lab development environment. The em4 lab comprises several modules: em4 soft for intuitive programming; em4 web and em4 app for on-demand access to applications or machines; and additional applications and services through the em4 community.
Starter kits for the em4 local and em4 alert nano-PLCs are available from RS Components for a limited time only at a special launch price. The kits contain everything needed to integrate an application with the chosen nano-PLC platform, including the em4 module, USB interface, USB programming cable, and the em4 soft programming tool. The em4 alert kit also includes a radio antenna function. The em4 soft software package provides a unified, intuitive, and graphical environment that simplifies programming using application-specific function blocks and remote management functions in a single tool.
