rs375-arduino yun mini-1-wDesigned primarily for engineers, hackers, hobbyists, and students, the Arduino Yun Mini is an adaptation of the Arduino Yun wireless microcontroller board and has been redesigned for use with breadboards, facilitating prototyping, as well as being very lightweight and having a truly compact form factor.

The Yun Mini's approximate PCB dimensions are 71.1mm x 22.9mm, less than half the size of the Arduino Yun's PCB, which measures approximately 68.6mm x 53.3mm with a USB connector extending it to about 73mm. Furthermore, the Yun Mini weighs 16g, half the weight of the Arduino Yun. Its small board size is ideal for use in confined spaces and especially for home automation projects, where fitting smaller devices into smaller enclosures can improve installation flexibility.

rs375-arduino yun mini-2-wThe Yun Mini offers an affordable breadboard PCB with an ATmega32u4 microcontroller and a Qualcomm Atheros AR9331 SoC with a 24K MIPS CPU, operating at up to 400 MHz and supporting the OpenWRT-based Linux distribution Linino. A bridge library enables communication between the two processors, allowing Arduino programs to run shell scripts, communicate with network interfaces, and receive information from the AR9331 processor.

The board has integrated Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b/g/n operation up to 150Mbps) and supports 20 digital input/output pins, seven of which can be used as PWM outputs and 12 as analog inputs. Other notable features include a 16MHz crystal oscillator, a micro-USB connector, an ICSP header, two reset buttons, and a user button.

The Arduino Yun Mini is similar to the Arduino Leonardo, in that the ATmega32u4 has integrated USB communication, eliminating the need for a secondary processor, allowing the Yun Mini to connect to a computer with devices such as a keyboard or mouse, as well as a virtual serial/COM port (CDC).

The Yun Mini can be customized with three available accessories: the dogRJ45, the dogUSB, and the dogUSB eMMC. The dogRJ45 is a 10/100Mbps Ethernet port; the dogUSB is a USB Type-A connector with a USB 2.0 hub that includes a mini SD card slot for expanding the board's memory; and the dogUSB eMMC is a USB Type-A port with 4GB of integrated flash memory.

The board can be powered via a micro-USB connection with 5V DC, which is usually the recommended option. However, a regulated 5V DC power supply can also be used to power the board through the Vin pin. Yun Mini can be programmed with Arduino software, which can be downloaded from arduino.org/downloads, or with Linino IO from www.linino.org.
