and advances the company's mission to facilitate innovation through Multidisciplinary Design Exploration (MDX) to help customers discover better designs faster.
Computational rheology further expands the multidisciplinary scope of STAR-CCM+ and focuses on problems where viscous and viscoelastic effects are dominant. Applications that can now be solved include fluids in static mixers (bread dough, food products, etc.), flow in containers (toothpaste, shampoo, etc.), pumped slurries with significant heat generation, as well as extrusions (rubber foam insulation for sealing doors, rubber tires, etc.) and material processing. This capability is incorporated into the same Finite Element (FE) framework as the Computational Solid Mechanisms offered in v10.04.
"Computational rheology allows our customers to find solutions for a whole new category of applications ranging from polymer extrusions to material processing, and they will benefit from this new technology without requiring an additional license," said Jean-Claude Ercolanelli, senior vice president of product management, CD-adapco. "Of course, this new capability is accessible from its familiar and unique STAR-CCM+ user interface, utilizing all the other STAR-CCM+ features from geometry to solution.".
In addition to computational rheology, STAR-CCM+ v10.06 brings even more important improvements to ensure that our customers remain competitive and effective in their market:
Technology:
With v10.06, engineers can perform two-way fluid-structure coupling from within STAR-CCM+. This tight coupling, easily accessible and implemented from the unique user interface in STAR-CCM+, leads to improved accuracy and ultimately results in better-designed products and reduced product failure. This new version also features the ability to compute the stress and thermal pressures resulting from thermal loads obtained in STAR-CCM+.
Experience:
STAR-CCM+ v10.06 brings a new and completely redesigned interface to the Hand Surface Repair Tool, increasing ease of use for both experienced and new users and helping them save significant engineering time. The new interface offers a simpler and more user-friendly environment for performing hand repairs on triangulated surfaces. Experienced users will find that model preparation requires fewer clicks and makes everything easier to identify and locate. New users will find the new interface easy to navigate and learn. More and more customers are interested in running simulations on increasingly complex and large assemblies, so it's critical that users can effectively manage their components and workflow. STAR-CCM+ v10.06 brings significant filtering improvements, making filtering and selecting operations, displays, and parts simpler and more intuitive. Read more
Productivity:
The part-based interface is a unique capability in v10.06, offering a distinct performance and scalability improvement by utilizing part-based workflows and resulting in faster simulation turnaround times. This is a key capability for applications involving many parts, such as vehicle thermal management, electronics cooling, and heat exchangers.
STAR-CCM+ v10.06 also brings significant improvements to geometric preparation by automating the process of decharacterizing a detailed CAD model. This release includes a new capability that finds holes and fillets of a certain size and automatically removes them from the CAD model, making it ready for analysis.
As with every STAR-CCM+ release, v10.06 includes many new features and optimizations stemming from ideas submitted through IdeaStorm, CD-adapco's exclusive customer innovation forum. To date, the company is committed to three major releases each year to ensure it meets its software vision while supporting the evolving needs of its customers.
