Yokogawa's IS8000 integrated measurement software platform addresses the challenge of developing sophisticated products like motor inverters, which often require multiple instruments to capture all test data.
Oscilloscopes offer high sampling rates and allow for in-depth viewing of waveforms, Yokogawa's ScopeCorder can display many types of signals at high resolution, and power analyzers provide unparalleled accuracy in power measurements. However, operating multiple instruments can be difficult due to differing user interfaces and the need to correlate the timing of various input signals.
The IS8000 software platform tackles this challenge by tightly integrating the timing, control, and data collection of multiple instruments using IEEE 1588 PTP, USB, or Ethernet, thus creating a comprehensive measurement suite.
Enabling instruments to work together ensures consistent measurements throughout product development, facilitating data debugging and analysis by displaying all measurements on a single screen. It also enables easy data sharing across an entire organization.
Using the IS8000 leads to greater efficiency, ensuring less time is spent developing test methods and more time is dedicated to collecting real-world test data.
The software provides scalability, offering optional software packages for deeper data analysis as user needs evolve.
Examples of IS8000 use cases include testing motors and inverters for products such as vehicles, elevators, air conditioners, and power generation equipment.
To capture rapidly changing waveforms, the IS8000 can work with Yokogawa's DL950 software to store up to eight channels of data in real time on a PC at a sampling rate of up to 10 MS/s over 10 Gigabit Ethernet. This means longer recording times are now possible for high-speed, multi-channel inputs, such as switching waveforms from multi-phase inverters.
The IS8000 can remotely control Yokogawa high-precision power analyzers, Scopecorders, and oscilloscopes, which can be configured and monitored via the software. It can also control third-party high-speed cameras, simplifying the operation and management of various instruments for measuring power, physical phenomena, video, and control signals.
The software allows users to run up to 16 independent FFTs for frequency calculation and integrated value and filter processing.
Custom reports are easily generated by simply dragging and dropping measurement data and waveforms onto the report sheet.
The IS8011/IS8012 software package is also available, enabling harmonic and flicker testing according to IEC 61000-3-2, 3-3, 3-11, and 3-12 standards using the WT5000 high-precision power analyzer. Users can easily set the conditions and generate the test report.
Although a power analyzer can analyze energy efficiency, it is optimized for power reading accuracy rather than capturing waveform detail. The ScopeCorder can capture the switching waveform with high-speed, high-resolution sampling, but this requires correlating the data between the ScopeCorder and the power analyzer. The IS8000 simultaneously provides both accurate power analysis and precise waveform capture.
Another application is motion analysis using video signals and sensor data from processes and events such as combustion, cutting, and vibration. Some mechanical movements are controlled by or closely related to electrical signals, and video images and signal waveforms may be needed to adjust all machine parameters.
The high-speed camera and DAQ systems share only the trigger signal, meaning that the video image and waveform data are captured individually. The IS8000 synchronizes with each instrument, allowing physical events to correspond precisely with the timings of the waveforms. The IS8000
is available with an annual license, which provides users with the latest software version for the duration of their subscription. Alternatively, users can opt for a perpetual license. This is a one-time purchase that can be used indefinitely, allowing users to upgrade to major software revisions for up to five years after purchase.
“With IS8000, developers will find it much easier to gather a large number of measurements from different instruments,” says Terry Marrinan, Vice President of Yokogawa Test & Measurement for Europe and Southeast Asia. “Correlating the timing of waveform displays from various sources provides a much more accurate picture of the behavior of complex systems and will make new product development much faster and easier.”
