This release improves the platform's stability, security, and compatibility, and includes updates tailored to Windows AWT responsiveness, Docker image cleanup, and enhanced support for AIX ppc64 systems. These updates reinforce Temurin's growing focus on platform relevance, modernization, and stability at the enterprise level.

“The incredible growth of Eclipse Temurin reflects a clear shift in how enterprises manage their Java-based application infrastructure. Organizations are seeking secure, high-quality, open-source, and delivery-neutral alternatives, and Temurin delivers exactly that,” said Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation. “This new release allows us to continue providing the quality and assurance that organizations expect from commercial products, while also adding new ways to support and empower the community.”

The new version of Eclipse Temurin (8u452, 11.0.27, 17.0.15, 21.0.7, 24.0.1) includes:
Headless AWT backdetection on Windows to prevent regressions;
removal of deprecated Docker images for Windows ServerCore & NanoCore (1809);
and improved AIX ppc64 support for JDK 24, enhancing enterprise platform coverage.

In addition to the new version, the Adoptium Working Group is also launching two related initiatives to educate businesses and ensure the continued growth of Eclipse Temurin is sustainable. First, the working group introduced a new ROI calculator to help organizations quantify the financial impact of adopting open-source Java, as companies report saving an average of over $1.6 million annually after migrating from paid Java SE options to open-source solutions like Eclipse Temurin. The working group also introduced the Temurin Sustainer Program, which encourages reinvestment in the technology infrastructure that powers mission-critical Java work.

The Eclipse Temurin Sustainer Program invites companies to leverage Temurin to contribute a portion of their savings to fund the project. Contributions are not mandatory, and participants can choose from various flexible funding levels based on their estimated savings and usage. These contributions enable faster release of new versions, maintain security, and expand the testing infrastructure. The Temurin ROI calculator, available here, provides customized cost savings estimates for organizations of all sizes.
