The M4K MCUs are based on the Arm® Cortex®-M4 core with a floating-point unit, operating at up to 160 MHz. Variants are available with 128 KB to 256 KB of code flash and 32 KB of data flash, along with 100,000 resistor write cycles, 24 KB of SRAM, and 64- to 100-pin package options.

The software package provides the essential drivers and sample code that developers need to interface with the MCU's peripherals, enabling them to quickly start new projects and accelerate their completion. The package includes low-level drivers with a well-defined API and examples for all the chip's peripherals. These examples include software for configuring the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for voltage measurements, controlling communication interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C) for various data transmission scenarios, demonstrating how code and data flash memory is used for data storage and protection, and managing other peripherals such as the digital noise filter, watchdog timer, oscillator frequency detection and clipping, and cyclic redundancy check (CRC).

The M4K MCUs include special features for motor control applications, such as a high-resolution encoder input, three advanced programmable motor control circuits, and Toshiba's Advanced Vector Motor Plus (A-VE+). These features are accessed for development through Toshiba's dedicated environment, MCU Motor Studio, which comprises a PC-based development environment and firmware for the most popular motor control and fault protection techniques.

The M4K group's sample peripheral software package can be downloaded from the Toshiba website. The software is delivered as fully developed and tested source code.
