Instead, it should be optimized at the design stage, especially considering that it is estimated that more than 80% of all product-related environmental impacts are determined during the product design phase.
The new Sustainability Impact Analysis feature in NX places environmental impact assessment at the heart of a product's development workflow. It is the first time a product engineering solution has provided sustainability metrics based on the EN15804 standard, derived from accurate 3D design data, combined with an AI-powered material recommendation engine. This allows organizations to calculate, evaluate, and optimize the impact of design decisions and material selection, based on a diverse and comprehensive set of more than 30 environmental impacts combined with a complete sustainability report integrated into the 3D design.
The integrated nature of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio means that the same data is available for reuse and is also available when connected across the wider enterprise. Environmental design objectives and requirements can be derived from requirements captured in Siemens' Teamcenter® product lifecycle management software and used for validation against environmental requirements and credits.
Siemens introduces the Performance Predictor feature in NX, which leverages the power of Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) hardware to deliver near real-time simulation results within its design tool. Once boundary conditions, loads, and materials are applied, parts can be simulated in real time, with the results overlaid directly on the 3D model. This means that NX's industry-leading geometry editing tools can be used simultaneously to edit, simulate, and refine a design in real time.
The same technology can be used to perform parametric studies using the Design Space Explorer in NX to define and solve multiparametric, goal-based optimization studies in a fraction of the time traditionally associated with these activities. Furthermore, once defined, this simulation data can be reused and extended in Simcenter™ software products to perform more advanced simulations as the project progresses.
Accelerating Molded Part Design:
The need for molded parts continues to grow rapidly, with the market expected to expand from $520 billion in 2020 to $750 billion in 2028. Manufacturers are seeking ways to reduce design times, eliminate costly physical prototypes, and reduce the trial-and-error workflows typical of molded part design.
The Molded Part Designer feature, now available in NX, gives designers the ability to create, manage, and validate their molded part design features (such as overhangs, spacers, snap-in clips, lips/grooves) within the context of their 3D design data in the native NX environment. Whether developed from best practices or a feature template, or imported from a third-party vendor, the NX molded part designer will validate these features, perform a moldability analysis, and present the results in visual dashboards. These dashboards allow for the evaluation of design feasibility and design options within the context of multiple scenarios, such as moldability, structural analysis, and more.
Materials can also be considered, which is especially useful when used in conjunction with NX's Sustainability Impact Analysis capabilities to ensure that the material not only meets functional and manufacturing requirements but also satisfies environmental requirements.
Taking tool management to the cloud
: Standardizing the tools used in CNC manufacturing operations not only allows companies to reduce tooling costs but can also improve the sharing of best practices among manufacturing teams. The new Cloud Tool Manager included in NX CAM uses modern web technology to centralize and easily manage tools and toolholders across the entire organization. It also supports importing tool data directly from supplier catalogs, minimizing manual data entry, speeding up NC programming, and enabling manufacturers to take advantage of the latest tooling advancements to manage increasing part complexity, tighter tolerances, and new materials.
