This collaboration combines ABB Ability™ digital solutions and Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform. ABB has already adopted the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to model and simulate its solutions before delivering them to customers. With this collaboration, ABB will develop and provide advanced digital twins to customers.
“This partnership agreement marks a significant shift and will enable our customers to leverage innovation and growth, fundamentally transforming their entire value chain to capitalize on the vast opportunities of industrial digitalization. Together, we are creating an open and comprehensive digital offering—from digital twins to asset health—that will give our customers a competitive advantage based on our combined offering, domain expertise, and global reach,” said ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer. "ABB is thus adding Dassault Systèmes to its strong network of partners for industrial digitalization, which includes Microsoft, HPE, and IBM. We look forward to working with Dassault Systèmes to drive innovation and customer value."
"The 21st-century industry is no longer defined solely by the ability to manufacture goods. Today's leaders will be defined by a greater mastery of technical expertise. This is the new competitive advantage and is booming right now due to a convergence of digital technologies that are transforming every aspect of industrial activities," explained Bernard Charlès, Vice Chairman and CEO of Dassault Systèmes. "In this industrial renaissance, the real and virtual worlds can inform and reinforce each other thanks to the platform approach. Our collaboration with ABB will be based on decades of combined experience and will aim to help customers take full advantage of this powerful and dynamic trend."
The collaboration between ABB and Dassault Systèmes will initially focus on:
Factory Automation and Robotics.
Experiences with digital twins for comprehensive process and system optimization, combined with the flexibility of robotic automation, will give factories the agility needed to adapt to increasingly dynamic markets. This includes turnkey manufacturing solutions and services, along with consulting for transforming industrial operations to optimize and accelerate new product launches. Electronics manufacturers will be able to increase production of new but short-lived products, while food companies will be able to switch between locally tailored seasonal offerings while maintaining high-speed production. In highly automated sectors, such as automotive, factory digital twin expertise enables an integrated design and manufacturing environment that will support new assembly processes with flexible and reconfigurable cells. It also allows for the linking of separate systems, such as connecting logistics automation systems with robots working on manufacturing lines that rely on the delivery of precise parts to achieve optimal productivity.
Smart buildings:
Digital collaboration will enable seamless workflows during the design, engineering, and operation of buildings, as well as sustainable and connected transportation solutions.
Process industries: mining example:
Competitive pressure in process industries, such as mining, demands that companies continually seek new ways to increase the safety, productivity, and energy efficiency of mine sites, while simultaneously reducing the costs and risks of daily operations. A digital model of the underground environment, connected to mine planning and control systems, would allow for the optimization of energy consumption and mine automation, as well as enabling mine operators to monitor and optimize production in real time while running virtual simulations of future scenarios.
