Since Saft installed its first systems in 2012, continuous innovation has resulted in a sixfold increase in the energy storage capacity of its 20-foot Intensium containers, from 0.5 to 3.3 MWh today. Saft has also filed more than 35 patents since 2017, culminating in the development of I-Shift+, a modular system housed in a standard 20-foot container. This is assembled and tested at Saft's factories to ensure the highest quality standards and then delivered to the customer ready for plug-and-play installation. Starting in the second half of this year, Saft will begin deliveries of BESS produced at its US plant in Jacksonville, Florida.
The shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy is one of the main drivers of market growth, which will exceed 20% annually until 2030. Now, Saft is focusing on the next step in energy density, developing a plan towards a BESS container with a capacity exceeding 5MWh, with production planned for 2026.
The other major new technology launched by Saft is the I-Sight platform, featuring an artificial intelligence algorithm for remote, real-time monitoring of energy storage system fleets. Customers now have access to a first-of-its-kind predictive maintenance service that detects and analyzes weak signals indicating technical issues before they can have an operational impact. This minimizes the risk of unplanned downtime or safety failures and extends system lifespan. I-Sight is designed for use by contract managers, operators, and service teams and has been deployed on more than 20 systems since 2022. The AI solution will be available in early 2025.
Michael Lippert, Director of Energy Innovations and Solutions, says: “We pride ourselves on continuously improving our products, services, projects, and manufacturing capabilities by incorporating a decade of experience to meet our customers’ needs.”
