On this occasion, organizations such as Waker, IMCD, Kompuestos, Novamont, Primebiopolymers, Clariant and Asobiocom have already confirmed their support by sponsoring the event.
The aim of this international seminar is to foster debate on the challenges and opportunities of sustainable bioplastics and biocomposites, an industry that has experienced significant growth in recent years and whose future projections indicate that production will have tripled by 2026. To this end, the two-day event is structured into four thematic sessions.
The first of these four sessions will address the main developments in the bioplastics sector and analyze the main trends that are in line with production from alternative sources that are more environmentally friendly and in some cases are compatible with a high capacity for biodegradation and are therefore environmentally sustainable both in terms of their origin and their end of life.
The second section will address the trends and role of bioplastics in the economy of the future from a general perspective and will present the main success stories, as well as some of their most innovative applications in sectors such as food, construction, textiles, fishing and agriculture.
The third section will be dedicated to standardization and certification, aspects of particular relevance in the case of these materials since ecolabeling provides the necessary information to generate trust in manufacturing and supply companies for their customers.
Finally, as a new feature, there will be a fourth section that will address the environmental impact of bioplastics in open environments such as terrestrial, riverine or marine environments.
Furthermore, the seminar will include workshops for two R&D projects coordinated by AIMPLAS: ELIOT and BIONTOP. ELIOT, funded through the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under the Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative, develops new, cost-effective recycling technologies for biocomposites used in the aerospace sector to improve their environmental sustainability. BIONTOP, funded through the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking within the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation funding program, develops new, low-cost, eco-designed packaging solutions for a triple end-of-life: mechanically recyclable, industrially or home compostable, and suitable for anaerobic digestion.
