Low-cost, third-party, and aftermarket battery chargers emit high levels of common-mode noise that negatively impact touchscreen performance, often resulting in inaccurate touch readouts or "ghost" touches. Cypress's new Charger Armor™ feature allows TrueTouch touchscreens to operate normally even in the presence of extremely noisy AC power.

The new feature, available in Cypress's CY8CTMA3XX TrueTouch family, is unique in the market and solves a common problem that mobile device manufacturers are striving to overcome. Low-cost chargers lack critical noise suppression components and can generate tens of volts (peak-to-peak) within the 1Hz to 1MHz frequency spectrum. These voltage spikes can directly impact the touchscreen during touch, significantly affecting performance. In response, many mobile phone suppliers collaborated to create EN 62684 and EN301489, two standards that regulate the noise spectrum for battery chargers. While Cypress's TrueTouch technology can suppress noise to the levels of these standards, Charger Armor allows Cypress to exceed them, offering the market truly revolutionary charger noise immunity and enabling mobile devices to operate with lower-cost chargers.
