IntelliPack uses liquid polyurethane that can be molded as desired or via a pre-formed molding system. The liquid expands and molds around the product to create a custom-fit protective structure. This ability of "foam-in-place" polyurethane to fill voids greatly enhances the security of the packaged product, especially for irregularly shaped objects that have traditionally been difficult to pack using pre-formed materials. "Foam-in-place" polyurethane is also effective for "pack and ship" businesses and online wholesalers, as it is well-suited for packaging a wide variety of products with different configurations that could not be safely and effectively packaged using conventional packaging materials.
Another advantage of the IntelliPack system is that the liquid expands to over 200 times its original size, while the film used to create the pouch in which the mixture is prepared is supplied flat, thus maximizing space efficiency in the warehouse or during the packaging operation itself.
Depending on the exact protection required, a range of machines is available, which can incorporate intelligent barcode and telemetry devices. An optimal protective format is designed for each individual item and programmed into the machine. A barcode is then assigned to the product so that, during the packaging process, the machine identifies it and ensures it receives precisely the correct amount of protective material. This eliminates excess packaging and unnecessary waste, and also facilitates consistent protection across facilities with multiple production lines.
The unique telemetry-based self-monitoring system helps optimize equipment performance in terms of operational consistency and reliability, preventing unexpected downtime. The system automatically monitors and measures critical information, such as liquid and film foam usage, temperature, pressure, and other operating parameters, and performs a daily diagnostic test. If a problem is detected, a service engineer is automatically alerted, and consumables are ordered as needed.
