The PCA series incorporates an expanded UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) interface that supports over 80 commands for monitoring and controlling the full range of power supply parameters; a PMBus option is also available.
The PCA1500F, which complies with EN/IEC 60601-1 medical standards, features reinforced 4,000 VAC input-to-output isolation and a patient protection rating of 2xMOPP. The PCA series offers a universal input voltage of 85 to 264 VAC. The output can operate in either constant voltage (CV) or constant current (CC) mode with analog or digital control. All PCA series power supplies are built in 1U high chassis and utilize COSEL's integrated high-density packaging with optimized cooling.
Available in six different output voltages, the PCA series covers the full range of applications from 5V to 48V, encompassing 5, 12, 15, 24, 32, and 48V. All output voltages can be adjusted to near zero volts and operate in constant voltage or constant current mode. Notably, the 5V model adjusts to 3V, thus covering 3.3V for computer applications, and the 48V model adjusts up to 57.6V, covering some of the growing Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications.
In addition to the main output, an independent, isolated 12V auxiliary voltage is provided, adjustable from 4.7–12.6V DC via digital control.
Designed for demanding applications, and in line with its predecessors, the PCA1500F combines the advantages of constant voltage and constant current, simplifying the designer's task when developing power supply systems that require both modes without adding external circuitry. This is particularly useful, for example, for charging lead-acid batteries that require a constant current charge up to 90% and a constant voltage above that value.
For added flexibility, the PCA1500F includes both analog and digital interfaces: the analog interface includes current adjustment (ITRM), voltage adjustment (VTRM), remote ON/OFF control, voltage detection, LED alarms, and current monitoring. For even greater flexibility, the expanded UART digital interface supports over 80 monitoring and control commands. Operating data can be stored and locked in internal memory, and recorded error codes can be used for analysis and recording of operating hours for preventative maintenance.
All parameters can be programmed and monitored via the graphical user interface of COSEL's extended UART control panel, which can control up to seven units. The extended UART is integrated as standard, and a PMBus option is available.
The PCA series can be connected in series or parallel for additional power, and in redundant parallel (N+1) mode to improve system reliability and availability.
The PCA1500F is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -20 to +70 degrees Celsius, and cooling is achieved by an internal intelligent fan whose speed automatically adjusts to ambient conditions. The fan can also be manually set to maximum (fixed) speed via the digital interface.
The PCA1500F includes input current limiting, overcurrent protection, thermal protection, and an output status alarm. For safety, the power supplies have 4,000VAC (2 MOPP) IN/OUT isolation and 2,000VAC (1 MOPP) IN/FG isolation. Output isolation to FG and other functional pins is 500VAC.
For high performance, the PCA1500F has a built-in active power factor correction (PFC). Conducted noise complies with FCC Part 15 Class A, VCCI-A, CISPR11-A, CISPR32-A, EN55011-A, and EN55032-A. For applications requiring lower conducted noise, COSEL offers the NAC-30-472 filter. Harmonic current emission complies with IEC61000-3-2 (Class A).
The PCA series is certified to UL62368-1, EN62368-1, C-UL (equivalent to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 62368-1), ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, EN60601-1 3rd Ed., and C-UL (equivalent to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60601-1), and complies with IEC60601-1-2 4th Ed.
All PCA units are 1U (41 mm, 1.61 in) high, including the fan. The PCA1500F is 203 mm (7.99 in) long and 140 mm (5.52 in) wide, with a maximum weight of 2.0 kg.
To meet specific application requirements, a range of options are available, including conformance coating (C), low leakage current (G), PMBus interface (I), reverse air exhaust (F2), master-slave operation (P3), and reverse logic alarm (W1).
PCA1500F power supplies come with a five-year warranty and comply with the European RoHS Directive, the REACH Directive, the CB Report, and bear the CE marking.
Designed for demanding applications, the PCA1500F combines the advantages of constant voltage, constant current and digital interface, simplifying the task of designers when developing power supply systems.
