The two-quadrant architecture of the R&S®NGL200 series allows them to function as both precision power supplies and heat sinks capable of stimulating batteries and loads with minimal ripple and noise, making them suitable for power amplifier and MMIC development. Their short recovery times enable them to handle rapid load changes, such as when mobile communication devices transition from idle to transmit mode.

The R&S®NGL200 series circuit design allows the user to determine how the power supply regulates load changes, and the speed of the default "fast" setting has been optimized to achieve recovery times of less than 30 µs.

The R&S® NGL200 series is also user-friendly, featuring a high-resolution touchscreen and color-coded indicators for different operating modes. The QuickArb function supports more points (4096 points) and executes Arb sequences quickly.

The R&S®NGL200 series also includes:
• A 6.5-digit resolution display for characterizing low-power devices in standby mode and high-current devices under full load. Because the entire measurement range is covered without the need for changes, measurements can be taken quickly, and in many cases, an additional digital multimeter is not required.

• The output channels are floating, galvanically isolated, and protected against overloads and short circuits.

• Because the output block is isolated with relays, turning off an output channel does not turn off the output voltage.

• They can be used in constant voltage mode as well as constant current mode, and each channel can be configured separately. Current limits ensure that only the configured current can flow, preventing damage to the test circuits in case of malfunctions. When operating as an electronic load, the power supply in constant resistance mode behaves like an adjustable resistor across the entire load range, making it possible to simulate battery discharge with a constant load resistance.

• A variable internal impedance allows users to simulate certain types of batteries or the increase in internal impedance as a battery is discharged in a controlled manner.

“The R&S®NGL200 series is ideal for use in laboratory environments and automated test equipment,” says James McGregor, Global Head of Category – Test, Tools and Production Supplies at Premier Farnell and Farnell element14. “This new addition means Farnell element14 can support engineers developing all types of applications across a wide range of budgets.”.

The Rohde & Schwarz range from Farnell element14 also includes the basic R&S®NGE100B power supply, suitable for educational purposes for use in workstations and system racks, and the high-performance R&S®HMP2000/4000 power supplies, optimal for laboratory applications and automated test equipment.
