The anodized surface treatment gives the Igloo FS127 corrosion resistance, scratch and scuff resistance, and heat tolerance, making it physically more robust than untreated aluminum. Compared to straight fin designs, the Igloo FS127's pin-shaped fins function perfectly regardless of their orientation, which is ideal for lighting applications. The heatsink's square shape allows for the installation of lighting fixtures with this design.
The Igloo FS127's low thermal resistance is achieved through a combination of cold forging and high-performance materials. Cold forging provides heatsinks with superior thermal characteristics and easier assembly compared to traditional cast or extruded aluminum. Using AL1050 aluminum in the Igloo FS127, thermal conductivity is 2.36 times better than cast aluminum, decreasing from 96.2 W/mK to 227 W/mK. Cold forging allows for more complex shapes, and the Igloo FS127 features a one-piece design that requires no assembly.
