Liebert AFC combines the outstanding energy efficiency of adiabatic free cooling with the continuous availability ensured by the backup of a multi-scroll compressor. This pioneering adiabatic system allows for water evaporation, which reduces the temperature of the air entering the condenser and free cooling coils, consequently improving free cooling performance and mechanical efficiency. Furthermore, it maximizes free cooling year-round while maintaining 100% cooling availability, even under the most challenging conditions, such as power fluctuations, water shortages, and extreme outside air temperatures.
A proven design and the integration of new technologies have resulted in the most efficient water chiller on the market, with a pPUE (Power Usage Effectiveness Index) of 1.08, lower than any other chilled water system. In addition, Liebert AFC delivers significant energy savings compared to the most efficient chilled water system from any competitor currently available. For example, in a typical 1.4 MW data center located in Central Europe and operating at full load, a freecooling chiller will consume approximately 963,000 kWh of energy per year, based on current market offerings. With Liebert AFC, however, this is reduced to 645,000 kWh per year, equivalent to energy savings of nearly €50,000 based on a cost of €0.15/kW.
Emerson Network Power is continuously striving to develop solutions for the data centers of the future, designed to optimize customer availability under any circumstances. As evidence of this commitment, last year we launched our dedicated Thermal Management business line. Leveraging the combined experience and industry-leading expertise of the Thermal Management line, the Liebert AFC solution aims to address the complex requirements of colocation and enterprise-scale facilities to reliably and efficiently control and manage heat.
“In recent years, the data center ecosystem has become critically important in supporting major innovation trends such as cloud computing, the latent power of big data, and the exponential growth of mobile devices. Consequently, there has been an increase in operating temperatures for IT infrastructure functions,” commented Kevin Brady, Vice President of Thermal Management for Emerson Network Power in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. “Our latest adiabatic free-cooling chiller, the Liebert AFC, seeks to address some of the evolving pressures surrounding heat management. Driven by our understanding of the challenges our customers face, we are embracing innovative methods such as adiabatic cooling and delivering pioneering solutions for data centers.”
