This new PIC32MZ EF series of 48 models also offers a 12-bit A/D converter and 18 MSPS for a wide range of high-speed, high-bandwidth applications. In addition, the PIC32MZ EF offers a comprehensive DSP instruction set. This combination of DSP instructions, a double-precision FPU, and a high-speed A/D converter improves code density, reduces latency, and accelerates performance in compute-intensive applications.

The PIC32MZ EF series features Imagination's powerful 200 MHz/330 DMIPS, 3.28 CoreMarks™/MHz MIPS M-Class™ core, integrated with dual-panel flash and instant refresh (up to 2 MB), a large RAM (512 KB), and the widest selection of connectivity peripherals in the entire PIC32 catalog, including a 10/100 Ethernet MAC, Hi-Speed USB MAC/PHY, and two CAN ports.
Many embedded applications are incorporating improved graphics displays, and the PIC32MZ EF, in its LCCG configuration, supports a WQVGA display without the added cost of external graphics drivers. A complete cryptographic engine with a random number generator is also available as an option, enabling high-performance data encryption/decryption and authentication using AES, 3DES, SHA, MD5, and HMAC.
The acceleration of product cycles and the rapid evolution of customer demands are increasing time to market for designers. Microchip's award-winning MPLAB® Harmony integrated software environment provides a modular, pre-tested, and easy-to-use development ecosystem based on a graphical user interface that helps facilitate integration, reduces testing time, and accelerates adaptation to rapidly changing market conditions, allowing designers to focus on product development.
The new PIC32MZ EF series is supported by Microchip's free MPLAB X development environment, which includes Harmony, as well as the MPLAB XC32 compilers. Also available are the MPLAB ICD 3 in-circuit debugger (DV164035) for $199.95 and the MPLAB REAL ICE™ in-circuit emulator (DV244005) for $499.98.
Four new PIC32MZ EF development tools were also announced today. The complete turnkey PIC32MZ Embedded Connectivity with FPU EF starter kit (DM320007) is priced at $119; the PIC32MZ Embedded Connectivity with Floating Point Unit and Cryptographic Starter Kit (DM320007-C) is priced at $119; and the PIC32MZ2048EF PIM Explorer 16 plug-in modules (MA320019) and the 144-pin PIC32MZ EF Audio for Bluetooth® Audio Development Kit (MA32001) are priced at $25 each.
The PIC32MZ EF series also features the new version of Digilent® chipKIT™ Wi-FIRE development board, compatible with Arduino™. This board provides easy access to professional applications and libraries for new PIC32 users. It enables rapid prototyping and facilitates migration to professional integrated development environments, such as Microchip's MPLAB X IDE.
All 48 models in the PIC32MZ EF series are now available for sampling and volume production. The cryptographic engine is integrated into 16 of the PIC32MZ EF microcontrollers, and there are 12 microcontrollers with 512 KB of Flash memory, 24 microcontrollers with 1 MB of Flash memory, and 12 microcontrollers with 2 MB of Flash memory.
The models in the family and their package options are QFN (9x9 mm) and TQFP (10x10 mm) with 64 pins for the PIC32MZ2048EFH064; TQFP (12x12 and 14x14 mm) with 100 pins for the PIC32MZ2048EFH100; VTLA (9x9 mm) with 124 pins for the PIC32MZ2048EFH124; and TQFP (16x16 mm) and LQFP (20x20 mm) with 144 pins for the PIC32MZ2048EFH144.
The microcontrollers with integrated cryptographic engine are PIC32MZ2048EFM064, PIC32MZ2048EFM100, PIC32MZ2048EFM124 and PIC32MZ2048EFM144.
