The NuMicro M3351 series incorporates DSP instructions and a single-precision floating-point unit (FPU) for performing tasks related to motor control, real-time signal processing, and control algorithms.
The microcontrollers have between 256 KB and 1 MB of Flash memory and up to 128 KB of SRAM. Devices with up to 1 MB of Flash memory support dual-bank operation, ECC, background operations, and bank swapping—features that can be used to implement firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) architectures.
Some versions include up to 64 KB of dedicated Data Flash memory, with a specified lifespan of up to 100,000 program-erase cycles. While programming this memory, the microcontroller can continue executing code from the APROM.
This separation between firmware and data allows for the independent storage of frequently changed information, such as calibration parameters, user settings, fault logs, and operating data, without the need to reserve part of the APROM for EEPROM emulation.
The M3351 series integrates a 12-bit SAR ADC with a sampling rate of up to 1.7 MSPS and a 14-bit SAR ADC capable of up to 1.0 MSPS and supporting up to 16 input channels.
It also incorporates a 12-bit DAC, two analog comparators, up to 24 channels of 16-bit PWM/BPWM, and up to two enhanced quadrature encoder interfaces (EQEI).
Hardware trigger paths between the PWM modules, ADC, and analog comparators allow certain operations to be executed without direct CPU intervention. These features can be used in closed-loop control systems for motors, robotic joints, fans, pumps, valves, actuators, and power control systems.
In terms of connectivity, the M3351 series offers up to two CAN FD interfaces, 10 UARTs, and three I²C interfaces, in addition to I3C, QSPI, SPI/I²S, USCI, and full-speed USB 2.0 with device and host functions.
The microcontrollers incorporate Arm TrustZone and Secure Boot, with firmware authentication via SHA-256 and ECDSA-P256.
Certain models also include TRNG, PRNG, AES-256, SHA-512, and HMAC-SHA hardware functions for firmware authentication, secure boot, and data protection.
The M3351 series supports operating temperatures from -40°C to +105°C. According to the manufacturer's specifications, it offers HBM ESD protection up to 4 kV and EFT immunity up to 4.4 kV.
The 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply voltage range allows these microcontrollers to be used in systems operating at 5 V levels.
The devices are available in various package sizes, from 5 × 5 mm QFN33 to 14 × 14 mm LQFP128, enabling different configurations based on the number of connections and available board space.
The NuMaker-M3351KJ board and Nu-Link debugger are available for development with these microcontrollers, and are compatible with Keil MDK Nuvoton Edition, IAR EWARM, and Visual Studio Code.
Based on their specifications, the M3351 series can be used in motor and actuator control applications, robotics, smart appliances, and industrial automation systems.
