The PIC32MZ DA family fills the gap in graphics capabilities between microcontrollers and microprocessors for customers who wish to remain within the familiar microcontroller design environment. These devices provide microprocessor-like graphics capabilities, along with seamless integration and programming with Microchip's PIC32 and MPLAB development tools. These tools offer a visual graphic design environment, custom display driver creation, graphics libraries, and an asset converter that can take a custom graphic and optimize it for the chosen display size.
These are some of the features of the new devices:
• Three-layer graphics controller capable of controlling 24-bit color SXGA (Super eXtended Graphics Array) displays
• High-performance 2D Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)
• Optionally, they can integrate 32 MB or 128 MB of SDRAM with external addressing to increase storage capacity
• High-capacity Flash and SRAM integration and connectivity options
The incorporation of DDR2 memory for the first time in a microcontroller allows for double the performance and provides large-capacity graphics buffers and/or storage for stacks and algorithms of increasingly complex communication protocols. This results in interfaces with efficient and outstanding performance, and fewer product versions in the crowded communications market.
The PIC32MZ DA family is supported by Microchip's MPLAB Harmony embedded software environment, the MPLAB X integrated development environment, the MPLAB XC32 compiler for PIC32, the MPLAB ICD 3 in-circuit debugger, and the MPLAB REAL ICE™ in-circuit emulation system.
