The PIC32CM LS60, which integrates Microchip's Trust Platform secure subsystem, simplifies the development of end products using a single microcontroller instead of two or more semiconductor chips. Now, designers can turn to a single trusted source for a 32-bit microcontroller designed to protect products and end users from remote or physical attacks on their smart home devices, smartphone or tablet accessories, portable medical devices, wearables, connected appliances, and industrial robots.

The rapid and continuous growth of the IoT market necessitates distributed devices that incorporate high levels of security. The PIC32CM LS60, with its combination of user-friendly Arm TrustZone technology and the secure Trust Platform subsystem, rated "high" according to the Joint Interpretation Library (JIL) criteria, enables designers to implement industry-proven security practices and protection against a wide range of known remote and physical attacks. Designs of this type are supported by tools such as MCC (MPLAB® Code Configurator), TrustZone Manager, and Trust Platform Design Suite to simplify the configuration of the secure subsystem. Microchip's Trust Platform provisioning service is available to supply keys and certificates.

“Thanks to the integration of Arm TrustZone technology and Microchip’s secure subsystem into a single package, the PIC32CM LS60 is a game-changer in the market,” said Rod Drake, vice president of Microchip Technology’s 32-bit microcontroller business unit. “We believe the microcontroller’s security, ease of use, and low power consumption represent a game-changer when implementing advanced security technology in IoT applications.”.

With the increasing adoption of touch capabilities in waterproof wearables and modern household appliances, embedded system designers face the challenge of developing touch interfaces that perform well in noisy and humid environments. The PIC32CM LS60 integrates an enhanced peripheral touch controller with Driven Shield Plus, which prevents false touch detections due to humidity and provides high noise immunity for exceptional touch interfaces.

The device also incorporates the independent SleepWalking and Event System peripherals. These peripherals keep the microcontroller core in sleep mode for longer periods to reduce power consumption. It also comes with integrated analog circuits such as operational amplifiers, digital-to-analog converters (DACs), and analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) that can operate in sleep mode and can be connected to various types of sensors. The PIC32CM LS60 is compatible with the MPLAB Data Visualizer and Power Debugger tools, which can be used to monitor, analyze, and adjust power consumption in real time. This makes it easier for customers to develop low-power applications and bring new products with longer battery life to market more quickly.
