The integrated system memory and connectivity offered by the current higher-performance devices within the S32G2 series enhance integration with the ECU (electronic control unit) and support software-defined intelligent vehicles. With the addition of the S32G3 series, the S32G family now covers a wider range of in-vehicle applications, from secure microcontrollers to higher-performance domain controllers, secure processors, and zonal computing applications.
Why it matters: The integration of the ECU and the evolution of vehicle architecture toward domain and zone architectures is developing rapidly, which in turn demands the integration of more processing power, memory, connection bandwidth, and resource isolation for implementation in software-defined vehicles. These intelligent connected vehicles require more advanced Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with secure, real-time processing and applications to deliver new cloud-based data services for vehicles intended for smart mobility and smart cities.
The S32G3 series offers up to 2.5 times the application processing, dual-port Ethernet bandwidth, and on-system memory compared to the highest-performing device in the S32G2 series (S32G274A). It also doubles the number of isolated domains, which are crucial for future ECU integration. These substantial performance improvements with the same pin configuration meet the needs of increasingly complex software-defined vehicles. The EVB3 evaluation board, RDB3 reference design, and rugged GoldBox 3 enclosure, along with a comprehensive software suite and the GoldVIP (Vehicle Integration Platform) for rapid development of connected gateways, provide platforms that accelerate evaluation, development, proof of concept, and time to market.
“The industry is evolving toward more integrated, software-defined vehicles, which requires more processing power and more memory,” said Brian Carlson, Global Marketing Director for Vehicle Control and Connectivity Solutions at NXP. “The new S32G3 series builds on the success of the S32G2 series processors, which began production in April 2021 and significantly boosted performance to support more in-vehicle applications and meet new market demands.”.
Several automotive applications, as well as those in adjacent transportation and industrial markets, have benefited from the S32G2 series devices since their mass commercialization, thanks to their combination of secure processing, connectivity, and security. The S32G3 series can enhance future market opportunities and applications with increased performance and capabilities, while also enabling product upgrades through software and pin compatibility.
S32G Ecosystem Support:
The S32G family is supported by a broad and growing ecosystem of vendors offering operating systems, virtualization, runtime environments, application software, boards, software tools, engineering services, advanced training, and cloud services. When combined with the tools offered by NXP, these vendors enable S32G family customers to accelerate product development.
S32G System Solution
helps customers design S32G system solutions in conjunction with other products. The SJA1110 automotive multi-gigabit secure Ethernet switch meets the latest TSN standards and integrates 100BASE-T1 physical layers, hardware-assisted security, protection capabilities, and multi-gigabit interfaces. NXP developed the PF53 as an auxiliary chip for the VR5510 to ensure the adaptation of the power management architecture and security concept from S32G2 to S32G3. The PF53 is a high-performance 12A power regulator with adaptive voltage positioning (AVP). NXP also offers a wide range of in-vehicle network transceivers with CAN's high-speed signal integrity and security innovations. The combination of NXP's S32G processor, SJA1110 switch, and VR5510/PF53 power management-based transceiver portfolio addresses the biggest challenges facing vehicle connectivity today, such as scalability, security, safety, and high-speed traffic engineering.
