Bridging the gap between high-end MCUs and mid-range ARM® processor-based devices, the Sitara range offers an excellent balance of integration, cost, and performance. It is designed to enable the creation of a wide variety of high-quality, multi-functional, low-power embedded applications. Sitara MCUs are ideal for a range of applications across many sectors, including home automation, industrial automation, networking, enterprise tablets, training, and consumer products such as handheld navigation devices.
The series offers a wide range of performance levels and includes the Cortex™-A8-based AM35x family, with performance up to 1,200 DMIPS at 600 MHz, reaching 2,000 DMIPS at 1.0 GHz at the top of the range. The devices also integrate high-speed DDR2 and DDR3 memory and the POWERVR™ SGX subsystem, based on 3D graphics acceleration, for enhanced visuals and gaming. It can also be used with advanced user interfaces, such as Android. The flagship model in the range is the Sitara AM335x, which is also used in the Beaglebone Black development platform.
The range boasts extensive connectivity options and includes a high-performance LCD controller with an optional touch interface, CAN 2.0, USB 2.0, and Ethernet/IP. Furthermore, the family's real-time programmable unit and Industrial Communication Subsystem (PRU-ICSS) enable independent operation of the ARM processor and support real-time protocols, including EtherCAT, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS, Ethernet Powerlink, and SERCOS, among others, commonly used in real-time systems such as automation.
Sitara lowers the barriers to high-end embedded design with low-cost development boards, easy access to powerful software including feature-rich development tools, and a large open-source support community. Support for Linux and Android operating systems is available free of charge from Texas Instruments.
