battery-charge-controller-mc1205-upd1001hi-wWith up to 100W of power available, designers can dynamically allocate this power to accelerate battery charging and system powering.

The UPD1001, the first component in the family, is a highly flexible and configurable solution compatible with all five standard USB-IF UPD power profiles and an additional 25 UPD-compliant profiles, for a total of 30 profiles on a single chip. This allows designers to select the optimal power profiles to meet the requirements of each application. Simple configuration is achieved by bridging two configuration selection pins on the UPD1001. A multitude of configurations are available to provide maximum flexibility. Integrated quad banks of one-time programmable memory enable further system customization without the need for external memory components.

The UPD100X family serves a wide range of applications such as laptops, printers and accessories, docking stations, mobile devices and battery chargers; industrial computers and portable devices; and automotive products such as control units, test instruments and USB battery chargers, among other applications.

The UPD1001 is supported by Microchip's UPD1001 Evaluation Kit (EVB-UPD1001), priced at $299.00, and is now available.

The UPD1001 devices are currently supplied for sampling in 32-pin QFN and 28-pin TSSOP packages. Volume production of these devices is scheduled for July.
