The system covers applications for all types of distance measurements, such as linear controllers, laser cutting systems, mechanical engineering, printing systems, and more. Its compact dimensions facilitate integration into applications.
The Balluff magnetically encoded measuring system, with IP67 protection rating, consists of a sensor head and a magnetically encoded tape. The sensor head slides within an operating space on the measuring body, which is magnetized with alternating polarity. Thanks to its absolute encoding, the position value is available immediately after the system is switched on, without a reference point. Its high installation tolerance and multi-color LEDs make installation very quick. Integrated diagnostic functions enable rapid troubleshooting and ensure short downtimes.
The sensor has a BISS-C or SSI interface. Real-time signals are available at the sensor output as 1 Vpp sinusoidal analog signals or, alternatively, interpolated RS422 square wave digital signals. The resolution ranges reach down to 1 μm, with system repeatability up to ±20 μm and a traverse speed of up to 10 m/s.
Since the system operates magnetically, it is insensitive to temperature changes, dirt (dust and oil), or wear. This also applies to interference, as Balluff engineers focused on developing a housing and electronics highly resistant to electromagnetic interference.
