Following the COVID-19 outbreak, Guangzhou Gosuncn Robot Co., Ltd., a leading provider of IoT (Internet of Things) products and services for smart cities, upgraded its 5G-based police patrol robot, adding new capabilities to assist frontline police officers in conducting disease prevention checks. Since manually measuring body temperature exposes public safety personnel to potential health risks, these robots are equipped with five high-resolution cameras and infrared thermometers capable of simultaneously scanning the temperature of 10 people within a 5-meter radius. If an elevated temperature or the absence of a mask is detected, the robots send an alert to the appropriate authorities. All data can be transmitted to a centralized control center for immediate response and real-time decision-making. Furthermore, while these robots are autonomous, they can also be remotely controlled, resulting in reduced personnel by minimizing patrol workload and preventing infections. It is not surprising that these next-generation 5G patrol robots have already been spotted in airports and shopping malls in the cities of Guangzhou, Shanghai, Xi'an, and Guiyang.
5G patrol robots equipped with an Advantech MIC-770 edge computer.
Gosuncn's 5G patrol robots integrate IoT, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and big data technologies for environmental sensing, dynamic decision-making, autonomous motion control, behavior detection, and interaction. To enable such advanced computing, the 5G patrol robots incorporate a high-performance industrial edge computer (MIC-770) equipped with an 8th generation Intel® Core™ i processor and an iModule GPU (MIC-75G20) for IoT applications.
Industrial Design for AI Training and Inference:
The MIC-770 industrial edge computer, developed by Advantech, a leading provider of high-performance industrial computing solutions, along with its MIC-75G20 GPU iModule, offers a high-performance system for AI training and inference. Designed for 24/7 operation under extreme conditions, the MIC-770's robust chassis and aluminum heatsink protect against vibration and shock, while a passive thermal solution ensures quiet operation. All electronic components meet safety standards for environmental protection, EMI/ESD tolerance, and high-voltage spikes (2KV). Furthermore, the MIC-75G20 GPU iModule supports PCIe/PCI I/F expansion cards such as image capture, GPU, and motion control cards, as well as actively cooled GPU cards. It also provides an additional 12VDC power supply from the onboard connector for cards requiring extra power. Taken together, the high-performance computing power of Advantech's MIC-770+MIC-75G20 solution can be leveraged in numerous applications such as urban security, smart equipment, autonomous vehicles, AI inference servers, high-level security inspection or medical equipment, and machine vision solutions for various industrial automation applications.
