Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC consists of long-term support versions of Windows released every two to three years. Users typically receive security updates for 10 years by design. Eliminating unnecessary updates is critical in many vertical markets as it minimizes the impact on embedded systems production. Since the most recent LTSC release in 2018, Microsoft has continued to invest in enhancing the capabilities of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise.
Windows 10 IoT Enterprise leverages the full power of Windows 10 Enterprise in embedded systems for vertical markets, such as kiosks, retail point-of-sale systems, smart gateways, robotics, and many other types of devices. Microsoft continues to introduce feature enhancements and help OEMs optimize their embedded IoT image and footprint needs. In short, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise strikes an elegant balance between a lightweight image, a small footprint, and the powerful capabilities of Windows.
Support for NXP i.MX8:
In its next version, Microsoft plans to support NXP's i.MX8 processors in Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, in addition to existing support for Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm processors. NXP is a preferred choice for IoT solutions in many vertical markets. The integration of i.MX8 and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise is very attractive for several reasons. Advantech, a Microsoft EEAP partner program member, has had the opportunity to test a preview version on the ROM-5720 module, as well as conduct Windows on ARM (WoA) testing. If you are interested in learning more about combining these two products, please contact Advantech.
Convergence of Windows 10 IoT Core and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise:
Partners developing Windows 10 IoT Core on x64 and ARM64 are expected to migrate to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise in the future. Customers interested in migrating from Windows 10 IoT Core to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise can now contact Advantech to learn more about migration services and support.
Linux modules with Azure IoT Edge on Windows:
The existing Windows IoT infrastructure can incorporate Linux modules. This is critical for customers on both platforms to take full advantage of both environments.
Software extension services with utilities, APIs, and hardware products:
Advantech has demonstrated its commitment by providing software extension services with utilities, APIs, and hardware products as a key contributor to the Windows ecosystem. For example, Windows 10 IoT Lockdown Utility simplifies the process for users to enable/disable locking features in Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, and this utility will continue to be available in the next generation of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise.
