In these applications, the new modules offer up to three times the computational performance in GFLOPS compared to the previous generation with i.MX8 M Plus processors. NXP's new neural processing unit, the "eIQ Neutron," doubles the inference performance for AI-accelerated computer vision. Furthermore, the hardware-integrated EdgeLock® secure enclosure simplifies the implementation of internal cybersecurity measures.

The new conga-SMX95 SMARC modules are designed for an industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, are mechanically robust, and are optimized for cost- and energy-efficient applications. The integrated high-performance eIQ Neutron NPU enables AI-accelerated workloads to be performed even closer to the local device level. Specific applications for the new SMARC modules can be found in low-power, AI-accelerated applications in sectors such as industrial production, machine vision and visual inspection, rugged HMIs, 3D printers, robotic controllers in AMRs and AGVs, as well as medical display and patient monitoring systems. Other applications include in-seat entertainment in buses and airplanes, transportation fleet management, construction, and agriculture.

The
new SMARC 2.1 conga-SMX95 modules are based on the new generation of NXP i.MX 95 application processors with 4-6 Arm Cortex-A55 cores. NXP is using, for the first time, the new Arm Mali 3D graphics unit, which offers up to three times the GPU performance of its i.MX8 M Plus-based predecessors. Also new is the image signal processor (ISP) for hardware-accelerated image processing. Of particular note is the NXP eIQ Neutron NPU for hardware-accelerated AI inference and cutting-edge machine learning (ML) in the new SMARC modules. The corresponding NXP eIQ® software development environment provides OEMs with a high-performance development environment that simplifies the deployment of in-house ML applications.

Furthermore, the new SMARC modules integrate a real-time domain for real-time controllers. The conga-SMX95 SMARC modules offer 2x Gbit Ethernet with TSN for synchronized and deterministic network data transmission, and LPDDR5 (with inline ECC) for data security. For display connectivity, the new modules offer DisplayPort as the standard interface and the still widely used LVDS display interface. For direct camera connectivity, the modules feature 2x MIPI-CSI.
