Flexible concept for the multi-function train
Modern trains are equipped with increasingly complex integrated systems to run and monitor onboard equipment, enhance passenger comfort, and offer new features.
As a counterpart to menTCS, MEN's train control system, the company now offers an equally open platform for all non-critical train functions. MEN's Railway Data Center menRDC is capable of combining many different functions, such as passenger information, onboard internet, predictive maintenance, video surveillance, driver assistance, and vehicle-to-ground/vehicle-to-vehicle communication, all within a single system.
The heart of the CompactPCI® series mainline server is an Intel Xeon-based SBC with up to 16 cores with integrated virtualization functionality.
It relies on a modular storage system, which can be equipped with up to five HDD/SSD drives with individually configurable RAID functionality (RAID 0, 1, or 5). Third in the family is the Gigabit Ethernet switch, which supports up to 25 Ethernet ports via robust M12 connectors on the front panel. Like its two predecessors, it offers space for two (redundant) power supply units (PSUs) and can be flexibly configured according to a "built-to-order" concept
The combination of virtualization, a complementary familiar concept, flexibility, open standards, and qualification for the railway market can be a good alternative compared to many different individual systems.
