The flagship MQ01AAD032C is a 320 GB hard drive[1] in a 6.4 cm (2.5 in) form factor. The MQ01AADxxxC series also includes the MQ01AAD020C (200 GB) and MQ01AAD010C (100 GB) hard drives.
Designed to withstand harsh environments, including altitudes up to 5,650 m (18,000 ft) – higher than any major city in the world – the MQ01AADxxxC series can handle vibrations up to 3 G (29.4 m/s²). It also boasts an operating temperature range of -30 °C to +85 °C and a non-operating temperature range of -40 °C to +95 °C. The MQ01AADxxxC series is also well-suited for industrial applications where a wider temperature tolerance is critical.
The drives operate silently at 4,200 rpm, so the driver won't hear them. An automatic control system enables a linear recording density of 62.6 kbit/mm² (1.59 M BPI), the highest for automotive hard drives. Equipped with a 3 Gbit/s SATA interface, the MQ01AADxxxC drives boast a 28% improvement in internal data transfer speeds, now reaching 976 Mbit/s.
Integrated navigation and entertainment systems, integrated satellite navigation systems, and automotive self-diagnostic systems are now key differentiators for consumers. Certain vehicles now have the ability to download apps that allow for console customization; smartphones and tablets interact directly with vehicle systems, enhancing the in-car experience.
According to iSuppli Corp., by 2016 more than 55 million people worldwide will have access to integrated internet in their vehicles. In June 2013, Toshiba surpassed 28 million automotive hard drives sold, making the company the leading supplier of automotive hard drives.
