Both the XCR14 and XVR14 offer a choice of 2nd generation Intel Core i7 dual-core or quad-core processors running at up to 2.5 GHz, providing a range of four performance-per-watt options, and up to 16 GB of soldered DDR3 SDRAM with ECC. This, along with sophisticated integrated graphics capabilities and Intel's Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) technology, makes them ideal for demanding applications in industry and telecommunications, and especially for defense and aerospace applications beyond command and control, such as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) signal processing and radar/sonar. Both single-board computers benefit from GE's extensive CompactPCI and VME hardware and software ecosystem, facilitating the development and integration of complete systems, as well as GE's industry expertise in long-term customer support through its product lifecycle management services.

Both platforms are available in five build levels, including air and conduction cooling.
In addition to a wide range of onboard I/O features, including four Gigabit Ethernet ports, five USB 2.0 ports, two DVI ports, VGA, audio, and two COM ports, the XCR14 and XVR14 also offer two integrated mezzanine expansion slots (both PCI-X PMC and PCI Express XMC) to enhance system flexibility. They also support SATA ports.
