Despite its compact dimensions of 20 x 16.5 x 3.95 cm (D x W x H), the DS47 boasts impressive specifications. Its motherboard comes pre-soldered with a low-power Intel Celeron 847 processor, featuring 2 MB of cache and a dual core clocked at 1.10 GHz. The steel chassis provides space for a 2.5" drive (HDD/SSD with 6 Gbit/s SATA), up to 16 GB of DDR3 SO-DIMM RAM, and a full-size Mini PCIe card.
For particularly easy assembly, each of these components is accessible via separate covers. A convenient SD card reader is located on the front of the unit.
The DS47 already includes a module for wireless data transmission via Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi) according to the N standard. The device allows network connection thanks to two Gigabit Ethernet connections capable of working together, with WOL and PXE.
Like many other Shuttle models, the fanless DS47 features serial ports, especially essential for industrial applications and device control. On the back are two RS-232 ports (one switchable to RS-422/RS-485) with 9-pin D-Sub connectors. Like its larger sibling (the DS61), the black DS47 includes a remote connection for an external power button. Two additional pins have been added in the same location to supply 5 volts to external components. Other connections include two USB 3.0 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, and audio output.
Whether used to connect one or two displays in the office or for control in the field of digital signage, the DS47 integrates two digital monitor outputs via HDMI and DVI-I. To achieve this, the Intel HD Graphics function, integrated into the Celeron 847 processor, enables smooth frame rates even at high resolutions.
Since it has no moving parts, the DS47 requires minimal maintenance and is ideal for continuous (24/7) operation. All this with remarkably low power consumption*, at approximately 10 watts no load and 22 watts under load. An external 65-watt power supply provides power to the device.
The DS47 can be used in at least two positions. Included in the delivery are support feet for vertical placement and a VESA mount for attaching the device to displays and other surfaces. Additionally, the sides of the DS47 feature numerous M3 threaded holes for custom mounting solutions. For theft protection, there are openings for a Kensington lock.
