This allows the device to be used in remote and offline access situations where FIDO2 is unavailable. Furthermore, Personal Identity Verification (PIV) technology ensures secure storage of personal credentials. The iShield Key Pro incorporates an NFC interface over USB Type-A and comes in a robust, water-resistant, industrial-grade plastic housing. With its latest security key, Swissbit is specifically targeting enterprise IT applications and extending the security of existing web-based services, opening up new application opportunities with its expanded range of features.
With iShield Key Pro, online accounts and web services can be adequately protected against threats such as phishing, social engineering attacks, and account takeovers. Businesses have even more flexible deployment options. In addition to compatibility with all websites and services that support FIDO2/WebAuthn and U2F (including Microsoft Azure Active Directory), HOTP is also included in the functional scope. This event-driven method, which ensures two-factor authentication (2FA) for web services that do not support WebAuthn, combines a private key with a counter-based one-time password. Furthermore, HOTP can be applied in situations where users do not have an internet connection, such as with offline applications.
Another new feature is PIV functionality, which uses a public key infrastructure (PKI) and the PKCS #11 cryptographic standard to store digital certificates and private keys. PIV is an open standard widely used in industry and by government agencies for authentication, digital signatures, encryption, and physical access credentials. PIV allows you to use iShield Key Pro for Windows login (for local accounts or via Microsoft Active Directory), even when BitLocker drive encryption is also enabled. HOTP and PIV configuration is possible using a free management tool.
iShield Key Pro is manufactured at Swissbit's own semiconductor manufacturing facility in Berlin, Germany, to industrial-grade standards and is designed for a wide operating temperature range of -25°C to 70°C. The security key can store up to 32 access keys for passwordless website logins and is certified to the latest FIDO2 standard and its predecessor, U2F.
